The morning of Friday 2nd March 2012 saw approx 60, year 3 children from Victoria Park Junior School come to the park with their teachers and some brave parents to meet me [Shelly Quinton-Hulme]. The plan was to split into 2 groups and to carry out some bird related activities. One group was to stay in the Community Building and make bird feeders out of plastic bottles, and then to draw and write about their favourite birds. This work can be seen by clicking on the link below:
The other group went outside to the bird feeding station area with each pair armed with a pair of binoculars and a clipboard containing some nature detetive spotter worksheets. These worksheets had pictures of common garden birds and spring flowers ready for them to tick off when they had spotted them. After plenty of time and spotting we played a game similar to British bulldog, with teams of foxes, plants and mice – great fun!
I really enjoyed my morning with this fun group and hope we do it again soon.
